At Character Montessori, we believe great education embodies both heart and know-how.

Our founder, Grace Yong, pours her passion and research in Montessori and Character Development into every programme, blending evidence-based practice with genuine care.
Leading our Jurong centre, Principal, Petrina Lai brings rich experiences from Singapore, Australia, Shanghai, and Taiwan.

Having explored many top approaches like Reggio Emilia and Inquiry-Based Learning, she chose Montessori for her own child, because it nurtures independence, joy, and readiness for life.
Together, they bring warmth, wisdom, and a shared love for helping children grow into their best selves.

Where Learning Meets Character

At Character Montessori, we nurture not just knowledge, but character. Our in-house
readers, written by founder Grace Yong, are research-based and intentionally crafted
to be in line with how children learn. Trained under renowned developmental psychologist
Prof. Thomas Lickona, Grace created Character Readers featuring characters in our school uniform, so
children see themselves in the lessons. Seamlessly woven into our Montessori
curriculum, these readers make values like respect, kindness, gratitude, empathy, and resilience part of
everyday learning, helping children grow into confident, compassionate, and
well-rounded individuals.

Over … More the years, the centre has gone through three different management changes (from Kids Mansion, then First Step, and now Character Montessori). As parents, that was frustrating at times because curriculum and teaching styles shifted with each transition. But we are so glad that when Character Montessori took over, things finally felt stable, nurturing, and consistent.One of the best decisions this new management made was to retain the existing staff while also bringing in new, passionate teachers like Teacher Jennifer & Petrina. This balance gave the children both continuity and fresh energy in their learning. We immediately felt that the management understood the importance of keeping trusted, familiar faces for the kids, while also enriching the program with creativity and fun.The teachers here are the heart of the school. They are patient, caring, and genuinely supportive. Not just toward the children, but toward parents as well. I will never forget the small but meaningful gesture of Teacher Anna coming out with an umbrella to meet us on a rainy day. It may sound simple, but it speaks volumes about how thoughtful and attentive the teachers are.We also want to give a special thank you to Teacher Maira and Yunjie Laoshi. These little habits show us how much she’s learning to think for herself.We were especially proud when she led the welcome speech during the Mother’s Day event this year. To see her stand confidently in front of everyone was such a milestone, and we know it wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement she received from her teachers.Her love for learning has also blossomed here. She immerses herself in books especially about dinosaurs and transportation and even pretends to be a little scientist digging for “fossils.” This spark of curiosity has been nurtured so well by the school. She still talks about the Asia Train Adventure holiday program, where she explored different countries through pretend play, learning about flags, cultures, food, music, and dance. It was fun, educational, and unforgettable. Something her previous schools never offered.What we love most about Character Montessori is that it goes beyond academics. The focus is on the whole child. Their independence, resilience, creativity, and character. The teachers here create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children feel confident to explore, learn, and grow.Now that our daughter is graduating and moving on to P1, we feel so emotional looking back at her journey. From being cared for as a baby to now stepping into the next stage of her education, she has grown up with the love, patience, and guidance of the amazing teachers here.
